The Executive Chairman of Onuimo Local Government Area, Dr Emeka Obi, has disclosed that he was excited with the commencement of Ezelu- Umucheke Okwe- Ideato South Road rehabilitation because the project is taking place during his tenure.
Obi however told Onuimolites to expect more dividends of democracy as he continues to be the executive chairman of the council.
Speaking at the weekend through his deputy, Mazi Ibegbu Eugene kelechi who represented him during the historic flag off ceremony for the rehabilitation of Ezelu- Umucheke Okwe- Ideato South Road, he said that the project aim to enhance infrastructure, improve road safety, and boost economic growth in the affected communities.
Held at the palace of the Traditional Ruler of Okwe Ancient Kingdom, he said that the event marks a major milestone in the development of Onuimo LGA.
The Chairman through his deputy poured accolades on the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Dist Sen. Hope Odidika Uzodimma whom he described as a governor with a type of leadership that knows no bound.
The representative of the Chairman thanked the governor for attracting such a huge project to Onuimo LGA as he enjoined Onuimolites to continue supporting the government of Gov Hope Uzodimma.
The Deputy chairman while speaking on behalf of his boss also informed the contractor handling the project that efforts have been made to checkmate insecurity in Onuimo, stating that the contractors and their workers are safe and should go ahead to do their works without fear of molestation.
The contractors were equally advised to ensure they do quality jobs maintaining that the road in question is very important to Onuimolites and is expected to boost economic activities in the area.
Also, member representing the people of Onuimo in IMHA, Hon. Uba James Esile thanked the Executive Governor of Imo State for the project and explained to the people that His Excellency, Hope Uzodimma loves Ndi Onuimo very well adding: "that was why the governor always ensures that good things from his government are usually allocated to Onuimo LGA.
Hon Esile also advised the contractors handling the the sections of the project on the needs to do quality works.
The law maker told the contractors to always relate with the locals through the representatives of the people.
Hon Esile advised Onuimolites who are not from the affected communities to cheer up as more road projects are on the way and it will certainly get to every community.
The engineer that represented Ministry of Regional Development explained in details the scope of the contract was to fix the gully erosion site at Alaocha Eziama Okwe.
The engineer stated that the project was captured in two sections adding that two different contractors will handle the two sections.
According to the engineer:" Section one will cover Ezelu to Alaocha Eziama Okwe while section two will take care of Umucheke Okwe of Onuimo LGA to Ideato South LGA. Both sections will be under taken by the two contractors in a simultaneous order.
Other notable speakers are the Chairman of Onuimo Traditional Rulers' Council, Eze Cosmos, and traditional ruler of Ezelu, Eziama and that of Umucheke respectively.
The Deputy chairman alongside Member representing Onuimo State Constituency in lMHA, Owerri Hon. Uba James Esile, Leader of the Legislative council, Hon. Andy Maduako, the SecLog chief Paul Okonkwo, Supervisors, SAs to the Executive Chairman, some traditional rulers, PGs of some communities in Onuimo LGA, etc witnessed the flag-off ceremony.
Recall that earlier before now, lack of road networks has been one of the major challenges hindering development in those areas before the coming of the present local government administration.
