Even as Nigeria clamours for more increase in Crude Oil output, the Minister of Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri has said that clamouring for increased productivity should never come at the expense of environmental safety.
He said that clamouring for a cleaner environment can not over emphasized.
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja when he hosted Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe, Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), he revealed their discussions centered on forging collaborations and strategic partnerships to actualize the objective of boosting production while adhering to environmentally responsible practices.
Lokpobiri stated:" In our drive to ramp up production, a key focus remains on adopting cleaner and greener processes to ensure a safe and sustainable environment.
"This commitment underscores our belief that increased productivity should never come at the expense of environmental safety.
"We remain resolute in safeguarding the well-being of our communities and preserving our environment, even as we pursue operational excellence.
"This commitment resonates with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s demonstrated resolve to clean up lands affected by oil spills."
