Onu- Imo Legislative Council Moves To Put All Markets In Order

 







The 6th Onuimo legislative Council has emphasized the need  to ensure that all the  markets in the local government area are properly put in order.



 This it said is to ensure proper output to enable  them render healthy services  to the general public and to the government. 


In a motion presented by the councilor representing Eziama Okwe ward 1, Hon Festus Asuzu, at the council's sitting on Friday, 15th, November, 2024, he explained the need to harmonize the leadership the markets in Onuimo LGA and have them be in tune and in touch with the  government of the day. 


While calling for the constitution of a market management committee by the executive chairman, the members of the legislative council who took turns to speak in favour of the motion, maintained that the committee would carefully carry out  an on the spot assessment of all the markets in the LGA. 


 The group said it will give report of the present  conditions of these markets in Onuimo to the executive chairman. 


According to the councilors, this shall enable the  chairman to have facts and data to work with, in taking measures to ensure adequate infrastructural facelift, healthy sanitary conditions, improved and well coordinated revenue derivation and security of all the markets in Onuimo LGA. 



They also observed that illegal groups had long  ago taken charge of the markets  extorting marketers in the name of revenue collections.


 The committee when commissioned to work,  the group stated would go a long way in putting a stop to the financial leakages in the Local government  system.


After extensive deliberations, the motion was unanimously adopted, when the leader of the council, Rt Hon Andy Maduako, put it to vote.
