Nembe Opu Asawo Itu (NOASI), a socio-cultural/pressure group in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has expressed delight at the level of work done at the Nembe-Brass road under construction by the Bayelsa State Government.
Speaking on Wednesday after a visit to ascertain the progress of the road, the President of the group, Comrade Daniel Ihide and Secretary-General, Comrade Solomon Olali-Igabo, on behalf of the entire members stated that they were absolutely delighted that the long awaited Nembe-Brass road was becoming a reality.
The Nembe group however pleaded with Governor Douye Diri to ensure the Completion of the road before the expiration of his second tenure in order to write his name in gold in the heart of the people of the two sister LGAs.
The Nembe Opu Asawo Itu commended the prosperity government under His Excellency, Douye Diri for summoning the political will and courage to embark on the very important road project traversing Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas.
The group disclosed that Nembe is hosting top oil giants adding that it is where the single largest oil field in Africa,Nembe Creek is located which supplies Bonny Light to Rivers State urging him to remain courageous in steering the ship of the state as they described Douye Diri "as the New Okilo of Bayelsa State."
But the group however appealed to the Governor to also consider the Abobiri-Okoroma road that had been on the drawing board since the time of late Chief Melford Obiene Okilo in the 80s.
The group said:"Nembe Constituency one is currently the largest in Bayelsa State where Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) at Obama and AITEO/SHELL Multi-Nationals are domiciled with quantum of crude oil and gas resources being exploited with little or nothing to show for it"
" We are calling on Nembe Local Government Chairman David Alagoa to carry the organization along in the scheme of things now that financial autonomy of local governments have come to stay."
Meanwhile, the Nembe Opu Asawo Itu has expressed displeasure at the sorry state of the Nembe General Hospital in Nembe, where principal staff of the hospital operates outside their duty post.
"We are appealing to Bayelsa State Government to provide an ambulance to enhance efficient health service delivery in the hospital."
