Ensure Road Safety: New Sector Commander Advises

 

The New Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps Bayelsa Command,  Corp Commander Mathew Egbe, has  advised  road users in the state  to ensure safety while driving on the roads.

Egbe, who until his new deployment was working as the Corp Commander Personnel at the FRSC National Headquarters Abuja,  took over from Corp Commander Ibrahim Usman who has been transferred.

Speaking in Yenagoa on Saturday, the Sector Commander  said his work is to keep Bayelsa route safe to make sure that all the roads are passable.

The new Commander, said night journey has been bared by FRSC, but some people still move in the night adding  that we are saying that if it is early evening let your light system be okay and make sure that you have a good vision on where you are going to.

Egbe, said his expectations in Bayelsa is zero person accident or crash, urging motorist to always check their tyres, horn, because if pedestrian crosses the road and the vehicle does not have horn and the person is heat is not accident but a crash, because the person didn’t do the needful.

He advised Bayelsa people to always check their vehicles to ensure that lighting system are okay, Tyres and everything about the car before they enter the road.

On the new vehicle bought and launched by the Bayelsa Government, he said they will liaise with the Ministry of Transport, to engage the drivers of the vehicles to educate them and advise them before they are put to use, and to ensure that they are road Worthy.

He said they will soon carry out a sensitization campaign to all motorist in Bayelsa State.

“Since my assumption of duty, I have gone round the accident prone areas and we are making efforts to make sure that in these ember  months,  public enlightenment will be done in several parts  of the state so that the people will know what to do.

“During this rainy season, officers are ready to enlighten the drivers to be conscious at every particular time because the life of those passengers are in their hand.

“I just finished a meeting with fleet operators and  one of the things we discussed is insurance, the life of anybody that boarded a vehicle from point A to B is in the hands of the company.

“So they are supposed to ensure all the passengers, they have the responsibility of taking those people from Bayelsa to Port-Harcourt or to Lagos until those people disembark in those areas it is still the responsibility of the company.

“So we are moving about for now Bayelsa is a peaceful area  The  rate of crashes we have here is not as high as other places.

“We as FRSC are going to do our best to ensure that road crash is reduced to the barest minimum, because we have a mandate to accomplish five percent reduction  road of  traffic death and injuries.

“Don’t speed in the night in case of raining season, let your tyres be okay so that the grip on the road will be okay when you break.
