Ijaw youths from the West senatorial district of Bayelsa state have called on the current national apokesman of IYC, Ebilade Ekerefe, to contest for the position of president of the council in the forthcoming elections.
The youths, represented by a delegation of key players of IYC, beyond the declaration of support also pledged to purchase the presidential nomination/expression of interest form for the national apokesman.
The convener of the Bayelsa West IYC stakeholder's meetingelder Eyororokumo Victor, pointed out on Tuesday in Yenagoa that the decision to back Ebilade Ekerefe so succeed Timothy Igbifa the current president of the IYC in the 9th session was based on the belief that he remains the best aspirant with passion to fulfil the people’s interests and hope for the region.
He noted that, beyond Ebilade’s tireless effort in defending Ijaw nation, he has impacted positively in the lives of Ijaw youths as spokesman of IYC, proven himself as a visionary, vocal, dogged, compassionate and selfless leader.
He said " Over eighty youths from Ijaw nation at the first batch of the ICT programme initiated by the spokesman have gotten laptops as starter packs for them to start life in the information technology (I.T) world and the second batch of 100 Ijaw youths have commenced.
" They are all being trained in computer appreciating, programming and coding.
“Ijaw nation needs a trusted and reliable visionary leader who feels the pain and anguish of the people and is capable of defending our territories and make life better for our people.
"We do not have any doubt about Ebilade’s candidature..He is a wordy and listening son of our senatorial district. He has impacted in the lives of Ijaw youths through ICT and other programmes initiated by him.
“We are calling on our vibrant, articulate and charismatic son to contest this election. Beyond that, we will purchase his nomination form if he eventually accepts our position.
Also speaking, Daubiri Ayamah, IYC Oyakiri clan representative two, said Ebilade Ekerefe was a sound and outspoken man who has done marvelously well as spokesman of IYC worldwide.
He said "Beyond the defending our region, the ICT training and empowerment programme initiated by Ebilade as spokesman speaks volume in the region and that has informed the massive desire from the people for him to contest as president of IYC.
Godspower Eyitimibai, former IYC Tungbo-Ebe clan said the decision from key players of IYC in the senatorial district was unanimous one, adding that the current spokesman of IYC has shown capacity and passion in defending the interest of Ijaw people.
