The Incoming Administration should Consider the Welfare of Workers: Julius

The Trade Union Congress Chairman of Bayelsa State, Laye Julius has advised the incoming president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider the Welfare of Nigerian workers.

That was he disclosed that Nigerian citizens didn't find it palatable during the outgoing administration under Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking to Crystal news on Friday, the TUC chairman said that the outgoing administration took some economic decisions that brought about hardship to Nigerians.

 Julius advised the incoming to come up with policies that will benefit the workers and the common citizens of the country especially the youths adding that the government should consider legalising artisanal refinery. 

He said “The last time they increased fuel price, they promised to come upw with some palliatives in terms of providing public transport and other things but those things didn’t see the light of the day.

“And they came up with social programmers that even the beneficiaries couldn’t get because it was beclouded with a lot of failure. Even thes school feeding programme and Nigerian and workers in particular suffered under this administration.

“I agree that there was time that negotiation was made for salary increasewhich was implemented but up till today, some states have noti implementedit. Again that is  so belated because it supposed to be every five years and the government is going without any increment.

“I also want to thank them for shelving the issue of fuel subsidy. It would have made things more difficult for the average worker.

“ For the incoming government, I pray that it considers the social welfareof the citizens and look at the economic situation of thea average worker in terms of the hyperinflation we have compared to the fixed income that is take home.

“We expect them to put in a lot of economic programmes that will bring benefits and create jobs and opportunities for Nigerians especiallyo ourteaming youths who are roaming the streets.

“We also want them to fix the refineries and license modularr refineries or artisanal refineries so that we will not be having thei issue of going outside the country to refine our products and that will kill the issue of subsidy.

“It will create jobs and bring about more small and medium scale industries that will be doing business in oil related fields.
