The Institute of Maritime Studies, Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State has disclosed that she will make sure that the institute will be used to promote Investment and Innovation in the Maritime based sectors in Bayelsa and in the Niger Delta Region.
Speaking on Wednesday in Yenagoa during a Press briefing to announce her first Annual International Conference and tTade Exhibition, (IMABEC), which will be taking place from 18th to 20th of November, 2025, Charles Johnson PhD, who spoke on behalf of the Institute, maintained that the essence of the conference is to encourage sustainable job creation and youth empowerment.
He also disclosed that the conference will be showcasing research technology and development initiative within the Maritime Domain.
The Conference he also revealed, will provide platform for policy dialogue and institutional synergy towards a resilient and inclusive Blue Economy in Nigeria and West Africa
He continued: "IMABEC will offer opportunities. It will project the state as a strategic hub for Blue Economy Development, attract Investment in Maritime infrastructure, Aquaculture and Tourism adding that it will create employment and skill building avenues to it's citizens."
With the theme, Sustainable Blue Economy, advancing Safety, Economic and Social Resilience in the Coastal Eco System, Johnson stated that the conference known as IMABEC 2025, will be done in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and NIMASA, NDDC, Nigerian Shippers' Council, NIWA and other relevant Stakeholders.
The spokesman said that the Conference which will start by 9am at the Diette Spiff Conference Center, Golden Tulip, will also showcase Panel Discussion, Trade Exhibition, Cultural Entertainment, Gala Night and Award.
