Make Positive Impacts Bayelsa: Diri Charges NYSC Members

 

Corps Members deployed for the one year mandatory national service to Bayelsa state have been urged to report to their places of primary  assignments, settle  down and make positive marks in the state.

They have also been enjoined to shine as lights in their host communities to champion rural development through their community development services.

Governor Douye Diri gave this advise during the  2025 Batch B, Stream 2 Orientation course closing ceremony  held at the NYSC Permanent  orientation Camp, Boro Town, Bayelsa state.

He  congratulated  Camp officials and Corps members  for the  successful completion of the  course. 

" This orientation programme is of profound importance. As the adage reminds us, "If purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable." Understanding the purpose of your service and the responsibilities that accompany it is essential."

" I am therefore heartened by reports of the exemplary conduct and discipline you displayed during your time at the Permanent Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps in Boro Town. Your behaviour has reflected well not only on yourselves but also on your families and on Bayelsa State."

Gov. Diri  also enjoined    the  Corps members to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and courtesy as   ambassadors of unity and national development because  the way they  present themselves and carry out  duties will shape perceptions and open doors for them in their respective host  communities. 

 "Let the flame of patriotism that has been kindled in you guide your commitment to duty, to public service, and to the common good."

 The Governor reminded  them to bear in mind that success rarely comes without perseverance. Therefore ,  with resilience and resourcefulness, they  will overcome challenges and make a meaningful contribution in their placements.

" Embrace every opportunity to learn, to develop your skills, and to serve with compassion and competence. The Government of Assured Prosperity remains committed to ensuring that your stay in Bayelsa is comfortable and conducive to effective service, regardless of where you are posted within the state."

" We are determined to foster an environment in which you can live safely, work productively, and form positive relationships with the people around you. I encourage you to take time to get to know the state and its inhabitants; you will find Bayelsans warm, hospitable, and ready to welcome you"

He highlighted that  the state government  is in the advance stage of installing  a newly acquired 60-megawatt gas turbines, a project intended to improve power supply across Bayelsa as   reliable electricity will bolster enterprise, support education and  healthcare services, as well as  generally stimulate economic growth and for the —benefits of all including  Corps members   during  the service year.

  He expressed optimism  that by the end of the  service year, the Corps members  would  have grown in experience and character.

"I am hopeful that many of  will find reasons either to remain or to return to Bayelsa state. This State is your home away from home; our doors and our communities are open to you. Once again, accept the warm congratulations of the people and government of Bayelsa State. I wish you every success in the year ahead and in all your future endeavours. I therefore declare the Orientation course closed."

In her  opening remarks, the State Coordinator, Mrs Okpalifo Obiageli Charity commended the corps members and Camp officials for  synergy  and self discipline that among other factors ensured a successful orientation course and enjoined  the Corps members to promptly report to their respective places of primary assignments.

She  also charged  them to  settle down render quality service to  nation in the state and  remain good ambassadors of the Service Corps.

Mrs Okpalifo again warned  against engaging in actions and omissions that will put their lives in danger and  negatively affect their service year. 

Particularly, she cautioned against  the negative use of the social media, travelling at night and traveling across the river without life jacket.

The State Coordinator further reminded  them  that  primary assignment runs simultaneously with Community Development Service and  urged  them  to identify the felt needs of  host community, initiate and execute viable CDS projects that will address such needs to leave a legacy beneficial  to the people.

She further highlighted   that  the Bayelsa State Government, along side the NYSC, has  put together a reward system for Corps members who distinguished themselves during the service year.

She charged them to actively participate  in the Post - camp NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development ( SAED) training.

" The time for you to build on that foundation and refine your chosen skill has come. As you proceed to your places of Primary Assignments, please, do not let  this foundation die; Identify a skill centre nearest  to you so as to perfect on the skill you have acquired while on camp. The future of this county 's economy lies in your hands- do not waste this golden opportunity." She explained

She expressed sincere gratitude to the Bayelsa State Government for its commitment to the welfare and security of the Corps members. She also appreciated collaborating partners and Camp officials  for their team spirit, and  commitment  throughout the period of the three weeks  orientation programme.

She called on all Corps Employers and traditional rulers in the state  to ensure that Corps lodges are habitable and secured for Corps members  She thanked God for a hitch free orientation course and prayed for journey mercies as camp officials, corps members and invited guests depart the camp to their various destinations.
