Honourable Uba Esile Conquers, Drags Film Village To Onu-Imo Local Government Area

 

In a landmark legislative breakthrough, the Imo State House of Assembly has passed into law the bill seeking for  the establishment of a  Film Village in Onu-Imo Local Government Area.

The Film Village will be domiciled at Umucheke-Okwe in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State.

The bill, which was sponsored by the distinguished lawmaker representing Onuimo State Constituency, Hon. James Uba Esile, received overwhelming support from members of the House and was successfully passed on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

The passage of this bill signifies a major stride in Imo State’s commitment to diversify its economy, promote youth empowerment, and expand the frontiers of the state’s creative and entertainment industry.

 The proposed Film Village, strategically located in Umucheke-Okwe, sits on a vast and well-positioned expanse of land with excellent topography.

The film village will also offer a  perfect environment for film production, cultural tourism, and allied enterprises.

Experts have described the project as a visionary move that will transform the socio-economic landscape of Onuimo and its environs. 

The Film Village is expected to create massive employment opportunities for young people, encourage local entrepreneurship, and attract both domestic and international investors to Imo’s creative sector.

 In addition, the presence of the facility will help reduce youth restiveness by enabling them to channel their  energy and creativity into productive ventures, thereby curbing crime and promoting community development.

Hon. James Uba Esile, in his remarks following the bill’s passage, expressed deep gratitude to his colleagues for their support and reaffirmed his dedication to championing initiatives that will uplift his constituency and the entire Okigwe Zone. 

He noted that the Film Village will not only serve as a cultural and artistic hub but also as a vital driver of economic growth, infrastructural development, and revenue generation for the state.

The establishment of the Imo State Film Village at Umucheke-Okwe stands as a bold testament to the Assembly’s foresight and responsiveness to modern economic realities.

 It is expected to position Imo State as a leading player in Nigeria’s booming film industry, enhance the state’s image, and offer a renewed sense of pride and belonging to the people of Onuimo and the Okigwe Zone at large.
