World Peace Day: CGJ F Advocates Universal Sustainable Peace

 

As the whole world canvases for sustainable Peace  in the Universe, a Non Governmental Organization Common Ground Journalists Forum International, has joined all lovers of Peace to ask that all  should embrace Peace.

A statement on Sunday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, and signed by  Alambo, Datonye Fred and Janet Twonmute, Chairman and Secretary, respectively, the group stated that in a time of increasing chaos, crisis and uncertainty, it is essential for all to take practical action to mobilize for Peace.

CGJF, Bayelsa noted that it is a call to action to work for Peace and tackle menaces such as insecurity, violence, crime, communal conflicts, environmental pollution and abuse, kidnappings, sea robbery, cultism and other social problems.

The statement reads:" It is in view of this that the Common Ground Journalists Forum International (CGJF), Bayelsa State, a group of Journalists committed to peace building efforts in communities, emphasized the need for mankind to develop an urgent need for harmonious living, peaceful co-existence and non-violence approach to resolving conflicts and crisis.

"The Day offers another reminder for people and nations of the importance of building a world free from violence and inequality.

"The International Day of Peace offers a viable platform for government, communities, religious and traditional leaders, citizens and all key actors to work together to build peace and tackle some of the socio-economic challenges plaguing the society.

"There is the dire need for all to say no to poverty and hunger across communities in Bayelsa, the Niger Delta, Nigeria and by extension the globe. 

"Addressing poverty, hunger and unemployment will address the root causes of many conflicts. Stable access to food and income reduces desperation and promotes cooperation.

"Also, healthy, educated societies are more likely to resolve disputes peacefully just as gender equality helps create inclusive systems that reflect the needs of entire populations.

"Similarly, access to sustainable resources lowers the risks or resource driven tensions as economic opportunity can replace instability with hope and shared progress."

Recall that the International Day of Peace or Peace Day is observed around the world each year on September 21. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations Resolution, the Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace and contribute to building a culture of peace.

Also, it is an important reminder of the importance of peace given the Theme for the 2025 Day ‘Act Now for a peaceful world’and ‘Advancing Peace Through the SDGs’ which focuses on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals {SDGs} and their direct link to global peace.

 Through this, the day highlights how addressing poverty, inequality, environmental threats and injustice creates a stronger foundation for peace.
