Obidient Movement Condemns Okpebholo Attack On Obi

 

The Obedient Movement has  Condemned  Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State for ordering former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi to always take clearance from him before visiting the state.

A statement issued by the movement's Director of Strategic Communications, Nana Kazaure on Saturday added that the outburst of the governor as consistent with the philosophy of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC to intimidate viable opposition in the country.

Governor Okpebholo had on Friday while receiving defectors from opposition parties in the central district of the state warned Obi to always take clearance from him whenever he ventures to visit the state.

The governor had however warned that the refusal of the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the last general election should be liable to whatever happens to him should he refuse to heed his advice.

While condemning the governor's warning, the Obedient Movement added that it wasn't the first a governor elected on the platform of the APC would be issuing threat to their principal.

They also cited similar attacks by Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia and another one by Anambra State Governor, Dr. Chukwuma Soludo as other past acts of intimidating Mr. Obi.

The Obedient Movement in the statement made available to Sunday Telegraph on Sunday Telegraph however maintained that it will not take the outburst lightly.

Citing Section 41 of the 1999 Constitution, which states that all Nigerians are free to live or move around in any part of the country.

Kazaure on behalf of the movement in statement noted that the governor erred in law by issuing the warning.

"We wish to alert the Nigerians and the international community that these treats should not be dismissed lightly. Should anything untoward happen to His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, the world now knows where to look," the statement reads.
