The founder of Pastor Reuben Initiative for Good Leadership and Accountability and a member of the Governing Council, University of Uyo, Reuben Wilson has appealed to Nigerian youths and organizers of the proposed nationwide protest on end bad government to shelve their plans and give President Bola Ahmed Tinubu time to fix the current challenges facing the nation.
The appeal is coming on the heels of August 1, 2024 proposed nationwide protest that is supposed to last ten days against economic hardship in Nigeria.
A statement by PRIFGLA on Saturday in Yenagoa and made available to newsmen noted that though Nigerians have the Constitutional right to embark on a peaceful protest but going ahead when Mr. President who is a democrat and a listening leader determined to tackle the economic hardship which is doing so in good fate is not a good one.
Pastor Reuben added that upon inauguration as President, Tinubu has not rested in ensuring that the current economic situation is addressed headlong, assuring Nigerians that already President Tinubu has marshalled out some life transforming policies geared towards changing the fortunes of the people.
He pointed out that rather than embarking on protest to solve challenges that Mr. President is aware and taking pragmatic steps to fix it is better for the youths and indeed Nigerian to rally round the government and proffer laudable solutions and ideas on best way forward.
He further pointed out that some of the economic policies rolled out by the President include securing autonomy for the local council areas, increase in allocation to states, students loan scheme, current increase in workers wages, financial support to small and medium enterprise to boost the economy etc.
PRIFGLA founder said " Let us be patient with President Tinubu to enable him chart positive economic blueprint to turn the socio economic situation of the country around for good. Tinubu in his one year in office has to a large extent fulfilled most of his campaign promises to Nigerians.
" He campaigned on eight points agenda of tackling insecurity, boosting agricultural production for food security, economic reforms, unlocking the energy sector and diversification of economy which are steadily being tackled.
" Therefore all these policies and programmed need time to mature and yield positive dividends. Protest at this time is a distraction so Nigerians should be patient with the Renewed Hope Agenda as Mr. President is determined never to disappoint them."
Pastor Reuben Wilson noted that before his appointment as a member governing council of the University of Uyo, he has by his personal resources empowered several youths and elderly men and women, scholarships to students across the Niger Delta and beyond etc, assuring Nigerian youths that President Tinubu will never disappoint them for thrusting him with their votes.
