Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister for State Petroleum Resources has commended the recent bilateral agreement to restore visa issuance for Nigerians by the United Arab Emirate which had been on hold for some time.
He however attributed the achievement to the dedication of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu whose efforts he said were pivotal in reinstating the important service.
The Minister acknowledged that the restoration of visa services was particularly significant given the high volume of travels between Nigeria and the UAE.
In a statement on Tuesday which was made available by Nneamaka Okafor
Special Adviser, Media and Communication to the Minister, it read that the minister was speaking during a courtesy visit on him by
Salem Saeed Al Shamsi, the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria along with his delegation.
Lokpobiri expressed his pleasure at the visit, viewing it as a significant demonstration of the strong and enduring diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and the UAE.
The Minister emphasized Nigeria's commitment to increasing oil production stating that while Nigeria is not in a rush to transition away from oil, the country was actively seeking to enhance its production capabilities reinforcing the country’s position as a key player in the global energy market.
Highlighting the benefits of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), he emphasized on the provision of a robust legal framework that guarantees returns on investments which he stated has significantly reshaped the oil and gas sector.
He assured the UAE delegation of Nigeria's commitment to maintaining a conducive environment for all investors reiterating that Nigeria was dedicated to creating and sustaining conditions that are favourable for investment.
The statement reads “The visit from Ambassador Al Shamsi and his team is a testament to the valued relationship between our two nations. It underscores our commitment to transforming our energy sectors for mutual benefit.
“The restoration of visa services is a critical development that will enhance the mobility of our citizens. President Tinubu’s dedication has made this possible and it will significantly benefit many Nigerians who frequently travel to the UAE.
“We are focused on ramping up our oil production. At the same time, we are inviting UAE investors to look at Nigeria as a prime destination. Our business environment is friendly and our crude deposits are vast.
“The PIA ensures a secure and profitable investment climate making Nigeria an attractive location for investors.
In his response, Ambassador Al Shamsi stated that UAE has seen great potentials in the Nigerian energy sector and appreciated the steps being taken to create a conducive investment environment.
He stated" Our countries have much to gain from the continued collaboration.
