The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ)Bayelsa State Chapter has  frowned at the non-availability of restrooms in some public state schools in the state.

NAWOJ  noted that it has made life difficult for the children and teachers, especially in maintaining healthy hygiene.

To this effect, the association has called on the state  government and  other relevant agencies to build restrooms and fence all public schools in the state.

Chairperson of  NAWOJ, Mrs. Grace Orumieyefa, made the call on Wednesday  during the celebration of Children's and World Menstrual Hygiene Day at Okaka/Ekeki Primary School in Yenagoa.

She disclosed  that children are precious gifts from God and ought to be celebrated while appealing to well-spirited organizations to partner NAWOJ to create the enabling environment to ensure the children learn in a conducive environment.

The NAWOJ Chairperson advised children to be obedient and take their studies seriously as they are the leaders of tomorrow.

Also, the immediate past NAWOJ Chairperson and media aide to the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Maria Olodi-Osumah, encouraged the children to be good ambassadors and stressed the need for them to shun all forms of social vices.

In a remark, headmistress of the school, Mrs. Roseline Timi, expressed gratitude to NAWOJ for the gesture and urged that it be sustained.

A health talk on “menstrual hygiene” was delivered by the Assistant Secretary of NAWOJ, Ms. Eyal Ikisikpo followed by a question-and-answer session.

Hightpoint of the event was the distribution of sanitary pads, writing materials, school stockings and other items to the children.
