Fire Incident Didn't Start From Our Facility: Kimowei

 

Oluwasegun Ayebusiwa,  manager of Kimiowei filling station in  Bayelsa  State has disclosed that the fire incident which occurred recently  at the sachet water factory attached to the filling station  didn't start from  their facility but was as a result of  public power failure.

Speaking  in Yenagoa on Monday, the manager  said that the report that the fire started from the facility is false maintaining  that only the sachet water section of the facility was affected by the fire.

Ayebusiwa disclosed that the facility has eight 50kg fire extinguishers and six 300kg fire extinguishers as reserve with all the certifications needed to operate as a filling station, adding that the building is built with fire proof materials.

He said, " The report that the fire started from our facility is false. The truth of the matter is that the fire started as a result of the failure of a public electricity supply facility. 

"We have firemen we send for training at the office of the Federal Fire Service. If not for the training and help of our men on ground, the fire would have engulfed more building around our filling station before men from the Federal Fire Service arrived. 

Narrating the incident, Ayebusiwa said he was in his  office at about 1:30am when he heard strange noises, saying that when he looked through the window, he saw two persons making strange movements near the shop oppose his office.

He added "Luckily for me, I had already called the local vigilante before going outside. Not long after I and my worker got outside, I heard a very loud bang. I initially thought it was a gunshot but it was sound of spark from electricity line connecting our building to the public electricity supply.

"After spark, the electric wire came down with fire and fell on a building adjacent to our filling station. That was how the fire started. Immediately, I raised alarm and thank God the vigilante I called earlier were close by at the time. So before others could come to help us put out the fire, the vigilante joined us to quench the fire.

"Meanwhile as we were battling the fire that had already engulfed the building, we didn't realize that the electric wire that fell had contact with a car parked close to the rear gate of our facility. That was how the fire managed to cross the road and started burning the car.

"By the time we could mobilize people to put out the fire in the car, the fire had gotten to the fuel tank of the car and exploded. It was through that means the fire entered our facility.

" If not for the fact that our facility is built with fire proof materials, the fire would have extended to the filling station section.
