Center Expresses Worry Over High Rate Of Bullying In Work Places.

 

 A Center known as Equality Development and Research Centre (EDR Centre), an anti- bullying agency has expressed worries over the  high rate  of bullying at work places especially at the  informal sector which  it regretted mostly goes unreported and unnoticed. 

Speaking at the weekend  in Abuja during an awareness programme organized by the organization, Marsha Nwanne founder of the organization lamented that employers especially at the informal sector often subject their workers and apprentices to all forms of sub-human conditions, which she said affect their productivity, psychological wellbeing and self- confidence.  

The anti-bullying expert, noted that there is need for a healthy working environment for skills development, learning, coaching, mentoring and productivity to thrive. 

She enjoined employers of labour and operators at the informal sector to try as much as possible to shun bullying of their workers adding that bullying reduces victims to sub-human conditions.

Marsha Nwanne disclosed that the organization has a team of skilled professionals on hand, including clinical psychologists, lawyers and financial advisers, all dedicated to providing support and guidance for victims of bullying. 

This holistic approach she said demonstrates EDR Centre's unwavering dedication to not only prevention but also ensuring that those affected receive the help and resources they need to navigate through these challenging situations. 

She noted that as an advocate against workplace bullying, EDRC is committed to raising awareness and advocating for the implementation of robust anti-bullying measures in organizations by promoting a respectful and inclusive work environment adding that  “we can create a culture where bullying has no place and  with that, every employee can thrive.

She stated “Workplaces exist in a wide range of fields, far beyond the traditional white-collar jobs or big businesses that we often associate with this concept. 

“The informal sector is a very large and important component of workplaces and those who found themselves in this sector should not be not denied the pleasure of enjoying safe and respectful working environment. 

One of the participants at the sensitization workshop, Princess Haruna   said that she has been were equipped with skills on how to respond to bullying. 

 She said “We were empowered on steps to report instances of bullying or any action that we may have witnessed. 

“It's a critical mechanism for addressing workplace issues promptly and effectively.
