As the Bayelsa State Governorship election slated for November 11th, 2023 enters a feverish pitch with the commencement of campaigns by the contending political parties and their respective candidates, a call has been made to the candidate of the All Progressive Congress- APC, Chief Timipre Sylva to banish whatever thought he has of using Federal might to circumvent the electoral process and it's true outcome.
In a statement on Monday which was signed by James Okoroma Terekiri and made available to newsmen in Yenagoa, it said that instead of banking on President Bola Tinubu who he had boasted "is not like ex- President Mohammadu Buhari " Chief Sylva should do better to convince Bayelsans on why he is a better alternative to Gov. Douye Diri who Bayelsans have resolved to return to Creek Haven".
Comrade Terekiri who is a youth leader and an active advocate of the Prosperity Movement from Nembe alleged that in recent times, the APC governorship candidate have, at several fora, been boasting that he does not need to canvass for the peoples ballots but will use agencies of the Federal Government such as the Independent Electoral Commission - INEC, the Police from the Force Headquarters at Abuja, JTF in the Niger Delta, the Judiciary, among others to snatch electoral victory from Gov. Douye Diri.
The statement read in part "Chief Sylva's desire to become Governor of Bayelsa State again is "already dead on arrival".
"Sylva has forgotten of how Bayelsans "stoned him with pure water satchets, stones, pebbles among other unsavoury objects at the Samson Siasia sports complex to register their displeasure at his performance when he was Governor between 2007 - 2015"
"Bayelsans expressed their displeasure through pure water satchets then, they are sure to do same with their ballot this time around"
The Youth leader noted that genuine stakeholders who have keyed themselves into the Prosperity Agenda of Gov. Douye Diri are aware of how he, Sylva instigated the removal of the immediate past State's Commissioner of Police for the current one and that of the State's Resident Electoral Commissioner - INEC, just as election day got closer.
And as a pointer to his determination to use the electoral body to achieve his devious aim, the statement credited to the new INEC Resident Commissioner that election results shall not be transmitted electronically, Comrade Okoroma Terekiri noted, appears to be going according to the script prepared by Chief Sylva and his sponsors from Abuja.
"How the Police, among other security outfits will equally be used to APC's advantage showed also in the manner PDP's former Youth Leader who recently defected to APC is going about the streets of Yenagoa with armed Police escorts he boasts Sylva had promised would be deployed for their (APC's ) "foot soldiers" in the various units to do the questionable needful for them on election day.
"These subterranean moves, and more to place himself at an advantageous position to steal the mandate of Bayelsans who are resolved to reject him at the polls, Comrade Okoroma Terekiri maintained, will not guarantee Sylva any victory at the Nov. 11, 2023 Bayelsa Governorship poll.
