Okigwe South Youth Alliance Rejects Tribunal Judgement Sacking Okeke

 

A group known as Okigwe Youth Alliance has rejected in it's entirety   a  recent court judgment sacking  Jonas Okeke as the Member representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency

adding that there is this  believe that the judgment was fundamentally flawed and fails to uphold justice and fairness.

In a communique issued at the end of a meeting by the group and signed by Honourable Samuel Anyakamnele, Ihitte-Uboma, Joshua Nwaneri(Obowo) and  Barr Isreal Onyeiwu(Ehime Mbano read that the judgement  has sparked significant discussions and deliberations among various stakeholders, including the Okigwe South Youth Alliance (OSYA).

The Communique read "The ruling of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal that resulted in the sacking of Rt Hon Jonas Okeke as the Member representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency and the subsequent order for INEC to issue the second-placed Chike Okafor with a Certificate of Return is unacceptable.

  "In response to this development, OSYA recently held a virtual meeting to thoroughly analyze and review the tribunal's decision.

"The Tribunal's ruling came as a shock to many, considering that it resulted in the removal of an incumbent representative and the installation of a new member.

" Such decisions have far-reaching implications for both the political landscape and the constituents of Okigwe South Federal Constituency. As a result, OSYA deemed it necessary to convene a meeting to discuss the implications of this ruling and its potential impact on the constituency.

"First and foremost, as with many Nigerians, we were deeply concerned by the decision of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Nasaraswa regarding the successful election of Rt Hon Jonas Okeke. we contest the impartiality of the court in delivering this judgment. We have reason to believe that there were external influences that compromised the integrity of the judicial process. The evidence presented during the trial was disregarded, and key witnesses were not given due consideration. This raises serious concerns about the independence and objectivity of the court.

"The verdicts, at best, are a travesty of justice and we are yet to come to terms as to how the court arrived at the judgement relying on a pre-election matter already put to rest by the Supreme Court, recently, which if applied, could not have given the challengers of our candidates any chance at all. We find several inconsistencies and contradictions within the judgment itself. The reasoning provided by the court lacks coherence and fails to address crucial aspects of the case. It appears that important legal principles were overlooked or misinterpreted, leading to an unjust outcome. We firmly believe that a thorough review of the judgment will expose these flaws and reveal a miscarriage of justice. 

"The verdict that has been handed down clearly goes against the principles of fairness, equality, and justice that this nation and our constitution stand for. The ruling was a product of flawed reasoning, unjustified interpretation of facts, and a complete disregard for the arguments and evidence presented before the court.

"We frown at the desperation of Chike Okafor, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress(APC) in the last election and the petitioner of the suit, who our people rejected at the polls. His clandestine plan to launch a democratic coup will be resisted. Despite his bragging of having political godfathers who would elections for him, we stopped him and his so called godfathers. 

" It is our firm belief that justice must prevail, and we will exhaust all available legal avenues to challenge this judgment. We encourage Rt Hon Jonas Okeke to head to the appellate court without further delay to correct this grave injustice. We reiterate our support in any way legally permissible. We will help him protect the mandate will gave him from power thirsty greedy individuals who seem not to have a life outside politics and stealing from public coffers. We are confident that a fair and impartial review will lead to a reversal of this erroneous decision.

"We call upon all concerned citizens, human rights organizations, and legal experts to support us in our pursuit of justice. Together, we can ensure that truth prevails over injustice and uphold the principles upon which our legal system is built.

"In conclusion, we urge our people of Okigwe South to be calm and law abiding in the face of this provocation. We are optimistic that the higher court will right the wrong. We will pursue this injustice to the end. We can not vote Jonas Okeke and have Chike Okafor imposed on us. God forbid!
