Oweiwari Community Protests Exclusion From PIA By AGIP

Oweiwari Community in Biseni clan of Yenagoa Local Government  Area of Bayelsa State has protested its deliberate exclusion from the community trust fund as contained in  PIA Board by Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC).

Several dozens of people including youths and the elderly from the community  at the weekend blocked major roads in the area, chanting songs and calling on Government to intervene in the ugly situation in the interest of peace.

Speaking on behalf of the people, Elder John Obu expressed dismay that while Communities that do not produce oil are captured in the PIA Board, Oweiwari Community that has several oil facilities is excluded and its people allowed to wallow in neglect and abject poverty.

"Crisis brewing between Multinationals and Oil producing Communities are majorly caused by the neglect of producing Communities by the Oil Majors.

"Tell me the justification in NAOC excluding Oweiwari Community from the PIA while non-oil producing Communities are in the list? 

"The Government of Bayelsa State and the Federal Government should  intervene to save the situation before it is differently misinterpreted.

"Several barrels of oil are  extracted from our land  daily while there is nothing  to show for it.

"Look from this end to the other end of the community and show me one project that AGIP has embarked upon here. 

 "We have no good school,no health facility,no bore hole neither is there electricity in Oweiwari.

"We will continue to protest this injustice until the needful is done. Elder John Obu said.
