Make Background Checks Before Employing House Helps: CP

 

 The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police,  Romokere Ibani has advised members of the public to do a background check on any house help they want to employ.

CP Ibani who was speaking at the Police head quarters on Tuesday during a press briefing said that some of the are always used as informants by the criminal gangs.

Parading some suspects at the head quarters among whom was  one Ruth Godswill 20 years who was said to have stolen things from her business man employer  valued about N2, 000,000.

The Commissioner stated" I want to  advise people who want to seek the services of a househelp to subject them to thorough background check, as we have observed some of them are criminals and can be used as informants to their criminal gangs.

"On 19th May, 2023 at about 0100hrs, one Ruth Godswill ‘f’ 20yrs, a househelp to a businessman residing at Igbogene, Yenagoa, stole his iPhone 12 Promax, a Samsung Galaxy, Jewelries and some wrappers valued at two million (N2,000,000.00) Naira at his residence. 

"The suspect escaped through the backdoor and jumped the fence. In a follow-up investigation on the 11th June, 2023, one Ezekiel Kokoriko ‘m’ 29yrs, boyfriend to the suspect was arrested at Igbogene for conspiring with the suspect and trying to sell the iPhone 12 Promax to a willing buyer through one Messiah Godknows ‘m’ 31 years.

The Command  also said  it has commenced operation to rescue the operations manager of the Sterling Bank,  Nneka Anochie, who was kidnapped by four armed men dressed in military camouflage in Yenagoa.

The commissioner  said  " On the  16th June, 2023 at about 7am, four armed men dressed in military camouflage, operating with a red coloured Lexus Jeep accosted  Nneka Ugonochie, along Tamara Road Otiotio, Yenagoa, while driving to her office.

"Tactical teams were alerted to embark on a rescue operation. The kidnappers abandoned the Lexus Jeep with REG NO. BWR 552 AW along the East West Road. Investigation is ongoing to rescue the victim and arrest the perpetrators."

Meanwhile, the commissioner said that there were no serious report from the riverine area stating that whatever achiement the command has made was through the effort of the public.

He continued "We don't have any serious report about the riverine area. Our men in the riverine area are working very hard to combat crime at that area. What ever we do here we replicate it in the riverine area   and the terrain does not really help us that much but we are doing whatever we can do to  ensure that crime is reduced.

"Our efforts are through community help. Where it is possible, they are helping, where it is not possible we do it on our own. What we have achieved wouldn't have been possible without the community. They are helping in their own way.

"The modest successes were achieved as a result of diligent investigation by Police operatives and the cooperation of members of the public. I implore the good people of Bayelsa to continue to support the Police in the onerous task of ensuring peace and public safety.

"The command will continue with its onslaught against criminals in the state, through constant raids, visibility policing, intelligence led policing and community policing.

"I urge the good people of Bayelsa State to continue to provide useful information to the police as policing is a collective responsibility.
