Press Week: Bayelsa NUJ Holds Public Lecture

 











The Grand finale of  the 2025 Bayelsa  Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Week,  will  come to a climax  on Saturday,  November 8 with a public discourse, luncheon, and awards of honour to deserving persons.



A statement issued on Friday by the Press Week Planning Committee Chairman, Comrade Dandyson Wanama; it's Secretary, Comrade Grace Iwolo, and the Publicity Secretary, Comrade Enideneze Etete reads that the event  will take place on Saturday, November 8, by 2p.m, at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre, Azikoro Road, Ekeki.



With the Theme: "Media, Social Justice and National Development", the discourse will feature keynote address by Prof. John Kalama of the Department of Political Science, Federal University Otuoke (FUO), with panel discussants: Prof. Christian Tuotamuno Diri of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, FUO.



 Also a Veteran Journalist, Mr. Charles Tambo; Mrs.  Adetokumbo Ade-Eko, general manager of Peoples FM, and Dr. Kolawale Oredipe billed to make inputs to the discussion.



 A broadcast journalist, Dr. Anderson Nikade who also lectures in the Department of Mass Communication, Niger Delta University (NDU), will moderate the Panel Discussion.



The statement indicated that Prof. Solomon Tamarabrakemi Ebobrah, Vice Chancellor of University of Africa Toru-Orua will chair the grand finale events, adding that Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri is expected to be the  Special Guest of Honour. 



It also stated that, Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjako; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Abraham Ingobere; Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiowou Koku-Obiyai, and National  President of NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdul are guests of honour, among other dignitaries. 



"The event will also feature luncheon, awards of service to humanity, for selected personalities, and cultural displays by UAT theatre troupe.



It added that  Veterans' hangout with serving journalists, to relieve experiences of the union's retired members will be held at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre on Friday, November 7, ahead of the grand finale. 



The planning committee, on behalf of the chairman of the NUJ Bayelsa State Council, Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha and the entire executives implored invited guests, friends of the Press and members of the Union to attend. 



This year's Press Week began since November 3, with a line-up of activities such as road walk; in-door games, novelty football matches and other events, culminating into the grand finale, November 8, and a thanksgiving service to be held at Church of God's Mission, Arieteline, Ovom Town in Yenagoa the state capital, Sunday, November 9.
